Accessibility Statement

Objective:

To ensure Bibblo is usable by all individuals, including those with vision, hearing, motor, or cognitive disabilities, by complying with Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines for accessibility and meeting core WCAG 2.1 standards.

1. Text and Visual Clarity

  • Dynamic Type Support: All debate text, buttons, and labels scale with the user’s device font settings.

  • High Contrast Mode: The app supports readable text and UI elements in black-and-white themes, meeting minimum contrast ratios (4.5:1 for normal text).

  • No Reliance on Color Alone: Important status indicators (e.g., selected posts, errors) are shown through shapes, labels, or icons in addition to color.

2. VoiceOver and Screen Readers

  • All text elements, buttons, and input fields have:

    • Descriptive accessibility labels

    • Traits (e.g., “Button”, “Header”) for semantic navigation

  • Debate post content and profile photos are navigable with VoiceOver

  • Users can hear full post content and comments in logical order

3. Keyboard Navigation and Focus

  • All core features (post creation, navigation, saving debates, commenting) are accessible via tabbing and external keyboards

  • Focus states are visually indicated and preserved when navigating between fields

4. Accessible Images and Media

  • User-uploaded images (if used in posts) support:

    • Optional alt text descriptions when posting

    • Proper accessibility labels if alt text is omitted

  • Profile photos and icons have descriptive labels (e.g., “Marie Curie’s profile picture”)

5. Touch Targets and Gestures

  • Tap targets meet minimum size requirements (44x44 pt)

  • No features rely solely on gestures (e.g., swipe to delete has a visible delete button alternative)

  • Avoids rapid double-taps or complex gestures

6. AI Tools and Content Editing

  • The AI suggestion feature can be used via:

    • VoiceOver

    • Keyboard input

    • Readable labels (e.g., “Ask AI for suggestions”)

  • All text input fields (intro, paragraphs, references) support accessibility typing and reading tools

7. Animations and Motion

  • Animations are minimal and respect system Reduce Motion settings

  • No flashing or looping animations that could trigger seizures or discomfort

8. Accessibility Testing and Monitoring

  • We test accessibility features regularly using:

    • Apple’s Accessibility Inspector

    • Manual VoiceOver walkthroughs

    • Xcode’s Accessibility Audit tool

  • User feedback on accessibility is welcome via bibbloapp@gmail.com

9. Language and Readability

  • Language is clear, professional, and avoids jargon

  • Labels use consistent terminology throughout the app (e.g., “Create Debate”, “Save Post”)
